How to Freeze or Pause Your Equinox Membership
The freeze channel, the fee, the maximum length — and the three traps that turn a "pause" into months of surprise billing.

Equinox does not publish one corporate freeze policy. The numbers above are what members commonly report; the only answer that counts is your signed agreement and your club's answer in writing.
1. A freeze is not a cancellation. Your cancellation notice clock doesn't start, and you're still a member. 2. It auto-resumes. When the freeze ends, full dues restart without asking you again. 3. It can stretch your commitment. On minimum-term contracts, many gyms extend the term by the freeze length — same total paid months.
Freeze the right way (5 minutes)
- Ask in writing (through your club's Membership Advisor or the member portal): "What is the freeze fee, the maximum length, what bills during the freeze, and does the freeze extend my commitment?"
- Get the approval in writing — a rep's verbal "you're all set" doesn't stop a draft.
- Calendar the end date. Billing resumes automatically; set a reminder a week before.
- Check your next statement. If dues still bill, reply to your written approval and dispute the charge.
Freeze or cancel?

Equinox allows a Freeze only for medical necessity or another legally required reason (not general convenience), and only if your account is in good standing (not on a payroll-subsidized corporate plan or short-term membership), per Equinox's own Member Policies. You get one Freeze during your initial commitment, then one per membership year after (medical Freezes are unlimited); requests must be made in advance — no retroactive Freezes — via Concierge@Equinox.com. A monthly Freeze fee applies (member reports cite roughly $30-$50/month; Equinox's published Member Policies don't state a dollar figure, so confirm your exact fee with Concierge).
