How to Freeze or Pause Your Life Time Membership

The freeze channel, the fee, the maximum length — and the three traps that turn a "pause" into months of surprise billing.

Maximum lengthNot published corporately — ask your club
Billing during the freezeConfirm in writing what bills during the freeze (dues, a hold fee, and whether any annual fee still hits).
Medical freezeMedical holds with documentation are the most commonly granted kind at nearly every gym.
Policy varies

Life Time does not publish one corporate freeze policy. The numbers above are what members commonly report; the only answer that counts is your signed agreement and your club's answer in writing.

The three freeze traps

1. A freeze is not a cancellation. Your cancellation notice clock doesn't start, and you're still a member. 2. It auto-resumes. When the freeze ends, full dues restart without asking you again. 3. It can stretch your commitment. On minimum-term contracts, many gyms extend the term by the freeze length — same total paid months.

Freeze the right way (5 minutes)

  1. Ask in writing (ask your home club in writing (policy is set club-by-club)): "What is the freeze fee, the maximum length, what bills during the freeze, and does the freeze extend my commitment?"
  2. Get the approval in writing — a rep's verbal "you're all set" doesn't stop a draft.
  3. Calendar the end date. Billing resumes automatically; set a reminder a week before.
  4. Check your next statement. If dues still bill, reply to your written approval and dispute the charge.

Freeze or cancel?

Freeze if you'll genuinely return soon and the fee is far below dues. If you're done — or the club won't put its freeze terms in writing — cancel instead: how to cancel Life Time, or generate a statute-cited cancellation letter free.

Per Life Time's own member FAQ, you can suspend club access for up to 4 months once per calendar year with 30 days' notice — during the hold you're converted to a $15/month Life Time Digital membership (on-demand classes/app) rather than losing access outright. Separate medical or military freezes are available for up to 3 months. Reactivating waives the joining fee.

Life Time freeze FAQ

Does freezing my Life Time membership stop billing?

Confirm in writing what bills during the freeze (dues, a hold fee, and whether any annual fee still hits). A freeze never ends the membership: full billing resumes automatically when it expires.

How long can I freeze my Life Time membership?

Not published corporately — ask your club When the freeze ends you snap back to full dues without a new sign-off, so calendar the end date.

Is freezing or cancelling Life Time better?

Freeze only if you genuinely plan to return soon and the freeze fee is far below your dues (injury, travel). If you're done, cancel — a freeze just delays the cancellation clock and keeps you a paying member. If you froze when you meant to cancel, send a written cancellation that explicitly rejects the freeze.

Does a freeze pause my Life Time contract commitment?

Usually no in your favor — at many gyms a freeze EXTENDS a minimum-term commitment by the length of the freeze, so you owe the same number of paid months. Ask this exact question in writing before freezing.

Not legal advice. Freeze terms change and vary by club and franchise; verify against your signed agreement and the club's written answer before relying on any number here.
